Sesame Oil

Sesame Oil was fist introduced by Assyrians. It is extracted from raw seeds and is rather light in color. It is a thick oil with a very distinct seed aroma. It has the quality of overpowering other scents. Sesame Oil is rich in vitamins; especially Vitamin E and B complex and proteins such as lecithin. It contains minerals, such as, Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphorus. It absorbs in the skin completely and does not leave any oily residue over the skin, but, glides over the skin. It also helps remove blemishes.

In soap it serves as a moisturizer and an emollient. It is beneficial for dry skin. Given below are a few recipes for soap making that will nourish your skin with Sesame Oil:

Soap Crafters' Sesame Dream:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Soap Crafters Basic Shredded Soap
  • 1 cup Whole Milk
  • 1 tbsp Whole Hulled Sesame Seeds
  • 2 tsp Sesame Seed Oil

Method:

Melt soap in a double boiler and then add milk. In a separate pan melt oils and blend in the soap and stir till trace. Then add essential oil or fragrance oil if you desire. Pour in mold and set aside for a couple of days. Remove from mold and cut into bars. Cure for 2-3 weeks before enjoying your very own Soap Crafter's Sesame Dream.

Herbal Soap:

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup Sesame Seed Oil
  • 3 tbsp Grated Beeswax
  • 2 tbsp Chamomile Tea
  • 1 tbsp Lanolin
  • 1 tbsp Sunflower Oil
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1/8 tsp Baking Soda
  • Peppermint Essential Oil

Method:

Melt all the ingredients in a double boiler and keep stirring. Do not let the mixture come to boil. At trace add essential oil and then pour into mold and un-mold after 2 days. Cure for 4 weeks and then your soap is ready for use.

Bay Rum Sesame Oil Soap:

Ingredients:

  • 10 oz Tallow (Beef)
  • 6 oz Sesame Seed Oil
  • 6 oz Olive Oil
  • 6 oz Coconut Oil
  • 6 oz Palm Kernel Flakes
  • 2 oz Castor Oil
  • 1 oz Rice Bran Oil
  • 5.28 oz Lye
  • 14 oz Water OR 12.6 to 1 oz Bay Rum Fragrance Oil

Method:

Melt all oils together and set aside to cool to 110F. In a separate container, mix lye in hot water. Then set aside to cool to 100F. Then combine both mixtures and stir. At light trace add FO and then pour in a mold. Remove from mold after 24 hours and cure for 5 weeks. Now your Bay Rum Sesame Oil Soap is ready for use.

It also makes a wonderful Aromatherapy Blend for massage. Here is a recipe containing Sesame oil that will sooth your senses:

Nourishing Massage Oil Blend:

Ingredients:

  • 8 Tbsp Sesame Seed Oil
  • 8 drops Frankincense

Method:

Blend both ingredients together. And apply the mixture to your skin and you will feel the soothing effect it gives.
