Rice Bran Oil
Rice Bran oil is extracted from the outer coat of the brown rice grain and is rather similar to “Wheat Germ Oil” although not as heavy. It is a good source essential fatty acids and antioxidants that stimulate mind, body and spirit. It is rich in proteins, minerals and vitamins, especially Vitamin E. it has typical characteristics of carrier oils. It also has components that hinder UV rays' absorption in the skin. It absorbs moderately into the skin without being sticky.
It is a gentle oil that makes it suitable for skin care products such as soaps, eye creams, etc. as it is suitable for all skin types. In soaps it is used to soften and moisturize the skin. Given below are a few recipes for making soap at home with Rice Bran Oil:
Rice Bran Oil Soap:
Ingredients:
- 400 g Rice Bran Oil
- 300 g Coconut Oil
- 300 g Palm Oil
- 143 g Sodium Hydroxide
- 350 g Water
Method:
Heat water then add Sodium Hydroxide to it and let it dissolve and set aside. In another pan melt oils together and then remove from heat. Combine both mixtures when they are at the same temperature. Stir till trace then pour in mold and set aside for 24 hours. Then remove from mold and cure for 2-3 weeks before using.
Tropical Paradise Soap:
Ingredients:
- 2 lb Palm Kernel Oil
- 12 oz Rice Bran Oil
- 1 lb Coconut Oil
- 1 lb Olive Oil
- 30 oz Lye
- 12 oz Goat's Milk
- 1 tsp GSE
- Fragrance
Method:
Heat oils together in a pan and set aside. Heat lye and when it reaches the same temperature as the oils blend in the oils. Keep stirring till light trace then add the rest of the ingredients. Pour the mixture in mold and set aside for 48 hours. Remove from mold and cut into bars. Then before using cure for 2-3 weeks.
Soapers' Shrine:
Ingredients:
- 10 oz Coconut Oil
- 8 oz Rice Bran Oil
- 5 oz Palm Oil
- 12 oz Palm Kernel Oil
- 10 oz Distilled Water
- 5.96 oz Sodium Hydroxide
- 9 oz Lavender Essential Oil
Method:
Heat water in a container. Then add sodium hydroxide in the water and stir to dissolve. Separately heat oils and then add in the lye mixture. Stir till trace then add Lavender Essential Oil. Pour in mold and un-mold after 24 hours. Cure for 1 week before using.

Relaxing Aromatherapy Blend:
Ingredients:
- 30 ml Rice Bran Oil
- 6 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 6 drops Chamomile Essential Oil
- 3 drops Petite Grain Essential Oil
Method:
Mix the oils together and pour and store in a bottle. Shake the bottle before use. And before applying pour the oils on palm and warm oil as well as fingertips.
