Macadamia Nut Oil
Macadamia Oil is extracted from the meat of the Macadamia tree. It is a non- volatile oil. It is also used in manufacturing cosmetics. It works as an emollient and fragrance fixative. It has been successfully used to heal scars and sunburns. It is considered to be safely used in facial products and baby products. It contains fatty acids in a large amount as well as omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. It gives the skin a satiny feel and high stability. Therefore, is suitable for heave creams and sun care formulations.
It is an excellent replacement for mink oil in most applications. Its application on the skin, however, leaves an oily feeling. It is slightly thicker than other carrier oils. It remains liquid at room temperature. It has very slight scent characteristic of most carrier oils.
Macadamia Nut oil is popularly used in soaps and other skin care products. Given below are a few recipes for soaps containing Macadamia Nut Oil:
Macadamia Nut Oil:
Ingredients:
- 4 oz Sweet Almond Oil
- 4 oz Macadamia Nut Oil
- 4.8 oz Coconut Oil
- 3.2 oz Palm Oil
- 6 oz Distilled Water
- 2.2 oz Sodium Hydroxide
- Essential Oil
Method:
Melt Sodium Hydroxide at low heat. Then add water and mix well. Add base oils and keep stirring. Add Essential Oil and stir till trace. The pour into a container or a mold and let it harden. Then let it cure for 2-3 weeks and use as you desire.
Macadamia Oil Soap:
Ingredients:
- 2 kg Macadamia Nut Oil
- 264 g Caustic Soda
- 30 ml Lemon Scented Tea Tree
- 5 g LSTT leaves
- 800 ml Water to make up
Method:
Mix water with Caustic soda and then add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. It turns to a creamy soap with very tiny bubbles. Be sure that the color is naturally pinky beige. It is great for skin as well as for hair. Use this soap after a cure of 2-3 weeks.
LilLi Pilli Fruit Soap:
Ingredients:
- 2000 g Cold-pressed Macadamia Nut Oil
- ½ cup Dried and finely crushed Lilli Pilli Fruit
- 265 g NaOH
- 800 ml Water
Method:
Divide oil equally into two containers. Add the lilli pilli fruit and bring the mixture to trace. Pour mixture into mold. With the other in the second container make simple soap and pour on top. There will appear a line where the two soaps meet. This soap is naturally pink.
It is rather famous for its healing powers. Here is a recipe for an aromatherapy blend that will give you relief in cold:
Cold Relief Aromatherapy Massage Oil:
Ingredients
- 30 ml Macadamia Nut Oil
- 5 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 5 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
Method:
Blend all the oils together. Put in a bottle and cap the bottle with a tight-fitting cap. Shake well before use. Pour the mixture onto your palm and warm up the oil as well as your fingertips before doing any massage.
