Flax Seed Oil
Flax seed oil is extracted from a herbaceous annual plant, Flax seed. It is also known as Linseed oil that is pressed mainly in the USA. It is yellow in color and has an odor similar to that of freshly melted butter. It is believed to have healing powers. It contains essential fatty acids which help in restructuring and moisturizing the skin. It is also high in Vitamin E.
It is also being used in cosmetics and skin care products. It is being used in soaps a lot nowadays. Here are a few recipes for making soap with Flax Seed Oil:
Aloe Butter Soap:
Ingredients:
- 1.6 oz Aloe Butter
- 1.6 oz Beeswax
- 8 oz Flax Seed Oil
- 3.2 oz Lard
- 1.6 oz Coconut 76 Degree Oil
- 6.08 oz Water
- 2.11 oz Lye
Method:
Heat water in a double boiler. Do not let the water boil. Add lye to water. Melt oils together in a separate pan and then pour into lye-water mixture. Stir till trace. Then add EO or FO if desired. Pour in mold and set aside to harden. Then remove from mold and cut into bars. Cure for 4 weeks before enjoying your very own Aloe Butter Soap.
Creamy Flax Seed Soap:
Ingredients:
- 6.4 oz Flax Seed Oil
- 3.2 oz Beeswax
- 1.8 oz Lard
- 1.6 oz Evening Primrose Oil
- 2.4 oz Monoi de Tahiti
- 1.6 oz Mango Butter
- 6.08 oz Water
- 1.96 oz Lye
Method:
Heat water and add lye to it. Stir to let the lye dissolve completely. Melt all oils together and set aside. As soon as both mixtures are at the same temperature combine them, stirring constantly. At trace pour into mold and set aside to stiffen. Then remove from mold and cut into bars. Cure for 4-6 weeks before using.
Flax Oil Soap Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 19.2 oz Coconut Oil
- 9.6 Flax Seed Oil
- 22.4 oz Olive Oil
- 12.8 oz Palm Oil
- 9.6 oz Sodium Hydroxide
- 23 oz Water
- 10 tsp Essential Oil
Method:
Dissolve Sodium Hydroxide in hot water and set aside to let it cool. Melt all oils in a pan and set aside. When both mixtures have cooled to 95F mix them together. At light trace stir in essential oil. Pour the mixture in a mold and leave for 24 hours. Cut into bars and cure for 3 weeks to let it dry properly. Then your soap is ready for use.
It is also being used in Aromatherapy and Massage therapy. Its restructuring properties have made it rather common in Aromatherapy. Here is a massage therapy that will make you feel fresh from within:
Spring Aromatherapy Blend:
Ingredients:
- 30 ml Flax Seed Oil
- 8 drops Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
- 8 drops Jasmine Essential Oil
Method:
Mix all oils together and pour in a bottle with a tight cap. Before use shake bottle well and warm up oil and fingertips before any massage.
