Cypress Essential Oil
Cypress essential oil has long been a favorite amongst soap makers and aromatherapists. This fresh, woody scented oil has the wonderful capability of calming and soothing people who are angry, irritable or stressed out. Cypress oil also has proven to improve conditions involving excess fluids, such as bleeding, excess perspiration, heavy menstrual flow, bronchitis and fluid retention. It has antispasmodic, antiseptic, diuretic, deodorant and astringent properties. Cypress oil has often been used to treat varicose veins and hemorrhoids, asthma, emphysema, whooping cough, influenza and the aches and pains of arthritis and rheumatism. It is also beneficial in the treatment of wounds or oily, congested skin.
Cypress oil is thin and watery, clear to pale yellow, and has a base to middle note. Its smoky, juniper and pine- like aroma has a spicy, masculine air and is often used in aftershaves and colognes. It is also a great oil for reducing unpleasant odors. Soap makers and aromatherapists agree that cypress essential oil is an important oil to keep on hand.
