Clove Bud Essential Oil
Although clove bud essential oil is an extremely potent oil and should be used with care, it still rates high in the eyes of soap makers and aromatherapists. It is a great spirit lifter and stimulates the mind. Ancient Greeks, Romans and Chinese often used clove bud oil to relieve toothaches or as a breath sweetener. Clove bud oil has strong antiseptic qualities so it was also used in the prevention of infectious diseases such as the plague. Besides being antiseptic, clove bud oil's therapeutic properties include antispasmodic, anti-neuralgic and antidepressant. It aids in treatment of respiratory problems and relieves muscle and skeletal pain. Clove bud oil is used to treat skin sores and it is a natural insect repellant. Despite the fact that clove bud oil should be used with care and avoided by pregnant women and diabetics, there are many reasons why soap makers and aromatherapists are still avid users of clove bud oil.
The fragrance of clove bud oil is strong and spicy, hot and familiar. It color is light yellow and darkens as it ages. Bay Rum Bath Soap
- 8 oz palm kernel oil
- 8 oz coconut oil
- 8 oz hemp oil
- 8 oz mango butter
- 4.75 oz lye
- 12 oz distilled water
At trace:
- 2 teaspoons Bay Oil>
- ½ teaspoon clove essential oil
- ½ teaspoon orange essential oil
Pour lye into water. Cool to 105 degrees. Heat oils to 105 degrees. Pour lye/water mix into oils. Bring to trace. Add essential oils. Pour into mold, cover and let sit for 24 hours. Remove from mold and cure 3-4 weeks. This makes a 2 pound batch of soap
Ginger Snap Soap
- 12 oz olive oil
- 14 oz coconut oil
- 15 oz vegetable shortening
At light trace:
- 1 tablespoon ginger essential oil
- ½ tablespoon clove bud essential oil
- 1-teaspoon cinnamon essential oil
Pour lye into water. Cool to100 degrees. Heat oils to 100 degrees. Pour lye/water mix into oils. Bring to light trace. Add essential oils. Pour into mold, cover and let sit for 24 hours. Remove from mold and cure 3-4 weeks. Makes 2 ½ lbs of spicy soap.
Oriental Flowers
- 10 oz sweet almond oil
- 10 oz coconut oil, 76 degree
- 10 oz sunflower seed oil
- 6 oz avocado oil
- 5 oz palm oil
- 3 oz cocoa butter
- 6.2 oz lye
- 16 oz distilled water
At trace:
- 2 tablespoons neroli essential oil
- 1 ½ tablespoons jasmine essential oil
- ½ tablespoon clove bud essential oil
Pour lye into water. Cool to100 degrees. Heat oils to 100 degrees. Pour lye/water mix into oils. Bring to light trace. Add essential oils. Pour into mold, cover and let sit for 24 hours. Remove from mold and cure 3-4 weeks. Makes 2 ¾ lbs of exotically fragranced soap.
Winter Woods Aromatherapy Blend for Your Diffuser
- 10 drops spruce essential oil
- 3 drops lavender essential oil
- 3 drops clove bud essential oil
- 3 drops rosemary essential oil
- 1 drop patchouli essential oil
