Chamomile Roman Essential Oil
One long-time favorite essential oil used by soap makers and aromatherapists is chamomile roman. Chamomile roman is renowned for its calming capabilities. It soothes tension and irritability, anger, and insomnia. This is one of the gentlest of all the essential oils and can safely be used in formulas for babies or young children and aids with colic or teething. Chamomile roman is also helpful for treating female complaints and will ease PMS, menstrual cramps and symptoms of menopause. Known therapeutic properties include antispasmodic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, and antibiotic, just to name a few. Praise for its many varied medicinal uses is widespread.
Chamomile roman essential oil can range in color from pale blue to greenish yellow and is thin in consistency. The fragrance is refreshing and fruity, very much like the fragrance of apples and adds a middle note to formulas. Soap makers and aromatherapists will find that this is one oil that they need to keep on hand because it serves so many diverse puproses. Bedtime Bath Bars
- 7.5 oz olive oil
- 7.5 oz coconut oil
- 7 oz palm oil
- 1.5 oz castor oil
- 1.5 oz cocoa butter
- 7.5 oz distilled water
- 3.6 oz lye
At trace:
- 1 tablespoon lavender essential oil
- ½ tablespoon chamomile roman essential oil
- ½ tablespoon rose essential oil
Blend essential oils and set aside. Pour lye into water and cool to 105 degrees. Melt and heat carrier oils to 105 degrees. Pour lye/water into carrier oils. Bring to trace and add essential oils blend. Pour into mold, cover and let sit undisturbed for 24 hours. Cure for 3-4 weeks.
PMS Soap
- 5 oz hempseed oil
- 5 oz coconut oil
- 6 oz olive oil
- 2.3 oz lye
- 6 oz distilled water
At trace:
- ½ teaspoon chamomile roman essential oil
- ½ teaspoon geranium essential oil
- ½ teaspoon clary sage essential oil
Blend essential oils and set aside. Pour lye into water and cool to 105 degrees. Melt and heat carrier oils to 105 degrees. Pour lye/water into carrier oils. Bring to trace and add essential oils blend. Pour into mold, cover and let sit undisturbed for 24 hours. Cure for 3-4 weeks. This makes a 1 pound batch of soap that not only soothes PMS, but also soothes menopausal symptoms and menstrual cramps.
Creamy Chamomile Melt and Pour Soap
- 1 pound melt and pour goats' milk soap base
- 1 oz shea butter
- 3 teaspoons ground chamomile
- 2 teaspoons chamomile essential oil
Melt soap base with shea butter. Let cool slightly. Add essential oil. When soap begins to thicken, add ground chamomile. Stir well, but gently to evenly incorporate. Pour into molds. Spritz with rubbing alcohol. Let set 4 hours until firm. Remove from molds.
Stress Relief Massage Oil
Essential oils:
- 4 drops orange
- 3 drops anise
- 3 drops cedarwood
- 3 drops neroli
- 2 drop chamomile roman
Blend all with tablespoon sweet almond oil or other carrier oil of your choice and use for a relaxing massage.
