Cedarwood Atlas Essential Oil
Are you familiar with cedar wood lined closets and chests that discourage moths? Cedarwood atlas oil is extracted by steam distillation from cedarwood chips or sawdust. It makes an excellent repellant for all types of insects. Cedarwood atlas essential oil also has numerous therapeutic qualities that are admired by soap makers and aromatherapists. Cedarwood oil is a known antiseptic, antispasmodic, and astringent and is used to treat dandruff and alopecia. Cedarwood atlas oil is a great itch reliever and is a good treatment for acne and oily skin. This richly aromatic oil has a wonderfully calming effect and is often used to soothe anxiety and nervous tension. It is well known as a sexual stimulant. Because it is also antifungal, cedarwood atlas oil can be used to fight athlete's foot.
This pale colored golden yellow oil can range from medium to thick. The fragrance of cedarwood atlas oil is woodsy and balsamic, similar to sandalwood. The base note of the scent enriches many different types of soap and aromatherapy recipes. Following are just a few of the many recipes that feature cedarwood atlas essential oil.
Moroccan Man Soap
- 30 oz olive oil
- 10 oz palm oil
- 10 oz coconut oil
- 16 oz distilled water
- 7 oz lye
- 1 oz lime essential oil
- 1 oz cedarwood atlas essential oil
- ½ oz cypress essential oil
Pour lye into water and cool to 110 degrees. Heat carrier oils to 110 degrees, turn off the heat, but keep stirring until solid oils are melted. Pour lye/water mixture into oils. Bring to trace and add the essential oils. Pour into mold, cover and let sit undisturbed for 24 hours. Remove from mold, slice and cure for four weeks.
Relaxation Soap
- 4 oz Coconut Oil
- 4 oz Palm Oil
- 8 oz Palm Kernel Oil
- 1 oz Shea Butter
- 2.25 oz lye (sodium hydroxide
- 7 oz distilled water
- ½ oz cedarwood atlas essential oil
- ½ oz lavender essential oil
- ½ oz ylang ylang essential oil
Mix lye into water and cool to 110 degrees. Heat carrier oils and shea butter to 110 degrees. Pour ly/water mixture into oils. Bring to trace and add the essential oils. Pour into mold, cover and let sit undisturbed for 24 hours. Remove from mold and cure for 3 weeks.
Doggone Soap
You can use this recipe to create soap that will repel insects and can be used on you or your dog.
- 2 lbs melt and pour soap base
- 2/3 oz castor oil
- 2/3 oz olive oil
- ¼ oz cedarwood essential oil
- ¼ oz eucalyptus essential oil
- ¼ oz lavender essential oil
- ¼ oz tea tree essential oil
Melt soap base in microwave or double boiler. Add castor oil and olive oil. Let cool slightly. Gently stir in blend of essential oils. Pour in molds. Spritz with rubbing alcohol. Let sit 4 hours before removing from molds.

al Skin
- 15 drops cedarwood atlas essential oil
- 10 drops rosewood essential oil
- 4 Tablespoons jojoba oil
Mix all oils together in an amber bottle. Shake well before using.
